Album Review – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West

Kanye West couldn’t have come up with a more apt description of his latest record than the very title he gave it; My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is just that. Anyone familiar with Kanye’s Twitter feed will know just how erratic he can be. Tweets about his new diamond teeth run close to hour long rants against the media, while his behaviour off-line has led The US President to brand him a “jack ass”.
This idiosyncrasy is prominent on the album. From the beauty of ‘Runaway’ with its haunting piano, to the twisted paranoia of ‘Power’, elements of the title can be heard in each track. When Kanye does falter, such as on ‘Monster’, where he is out-rhymed by the phenomenal Nicki Minaj, the song still exudes a dark beauty with its apprentice-beats-master undertone.
This is the most accomplished and honest album Kanye has produced so far. A man so seemingly out of touch with reality has made an album that reflects who he is at this point in time. His life is one big, beautiful, dark, and twisted fantasy, and here is the proof.
