Track Review – Bodies by Catfish & The Bottlemen

Indie rock isn’t in the position it was five years ago, it’s not even in the position it was in two years ago; Kings Of Leon have just released their worst album so far, Oasis have split up, and no one’s pretending to enjoy The Enemy anymore either.

So what to do with a band who describe themselves as having ‘loud spiky anthems complete with infectious hooks, sing-a-long chants and contagious riffs that worm their way into your head long after you finish listening’? Because that sounds explicitly like indie rock to me.

Catfish & The Bottlemen gained their reputation as a ‘band to watch’ after receiving BBC 6 Music’s Unsigned Band Of The Year Award 2009 and have spent most of 2010 in between studios and stages living up to the award.

Indie music may not be at the forefront of musical culture like it was in The Libertines heyday but it is by no means dead. ‘Bodies’ is proof of this and is a promising release from a band already doing very well for themselves.

‘Bodies’ is released December 6th.
